Internal Communications

HumanComm approaches internal communications from three disciplines: organizational development, graphic design, and communications. Our solution to creating an effective internal communication program is to create one that incorporates verbal, written, and visual communication.

HumanComm uses a three-step process to create the most effective communication program possible.

First, we assess. Assessing an organization’s current communication situation is necessary to understand where the organization’s communications need to go. HumanComm uses qualitative research techniques such as participant observation, in-depth interviews, and quantitative surveys to determine an organization’s communication climate. Based on the assessment findings, we may recommend and provide training in management, team, or interpersonal communication or in giving and receiving feedback.

Tools: participant observation; in-depth interviews; surveys; communication training: management, team, and/or interpersonal; feedback training.

Next, we plan. Creating a well-developed strategy is the basis upon which to build tactics. Using the information found during the assessment, HumanComm develops a communication plan built on sound, personalized strategy.

Tools: communication planning, communication strategy, branding, marketing, plain language writing, messaging.

Last, we design. Creating logos, flyers, posters, and other visual communication mechanisms separately from the written and verbal communication program usually results in a scattered message. Taking the knowledge gleaned from the assessment and planning phases, HumanComm creates visual communication pieces to fit the overall plan.

Tools: intranets, newsletter templates, posters, fliers, brochures.
